Long before the Chicago Bears were what they are now, they were known as the Decatur Staleys and were located in Decatur, Illinois. They were named after the A.E. Staley food starch company and created as a company team; the team relocated to Chicago in 1921 and became the Chicago Staleys until they were renamed the Chicago Bears in 1922 to consolidate with the Chicago Cubs baseball team.
The Chicago Bears adapted their colors from the University of Illinois, which was the alma mater of George Halas, one of the team’s original owners after it was purchased from the A.E. Staley company. The navy, orange, and blue team colors look great in many different situations to this day including on a Chicago Bears black tire cover.
